The largest ethnic group in Burkina Fasso the Mossi are famous
for their tall
(more that 6 feet high) antelope masks that are traditionally worn at funeral ceremonies.
Songhai
Living mostly in Niger and Northern Mali the Songhai hold strong bonds with the Tuareg. They consider themselves Muslim
though mediums for spirit intervention (ancestor worship, witchcraft) are popular.
Lobi
Living in adobe compounds that look like small fortresses the Lobi do not make masks but carve small human figure
that represent dieties and ancestors. The older women still wear lip plugs.
Gurinsi
The Gurunsi or Kassena women decorate their houses using natural mineral pigments.
Their main village has been declared a World Heritage Site.
