Akan (Asante)

Ga people on the coast around Accra make specially carved coffins representing the professions of the deceased. The Asante king and the Queen mother rule from the royal capitol in Kumasi and at the Akwasidae ceremony large quantities of gold regalia are displayed reminding one that once the Akan exported a ton of gold every year. The sacred Golden Stool,
symbolizing the king's power, is considered so precious no one may sit on it, not even the king.
