Rajputana is an area in which the warrior class (originally there were 36 clans) developed an impressive civilization from the 7th century onward. Rajputs are mostly Hindu and were famous in battle for not being captured alive. Though nominally Hindu the tribal people in Rajasthan have kept the traditions of the Rig Veda alive for 5000 years by venerating ancestors, magic and the supernatural, tree spirits and snakes.
