At Gotar ritual funeral ceremonies many cows and buffalo are sacrificed so that they can carry off
the souls of the departed and become their property in the afterlife. As such cattle increase the
donor's as well as the ancestor's status in the hierarchy of kinship ties. On this occasion megalithic menhirs
and stone slabs are dedicated to the departed for the Gadaba are animists and worship clan gods
(in particular the goddess Thakurani) and believe in ghosts and spirits.
